This and That Chat

Good morning!

Typically, I start planning for this weekly blog on Tuesday and have an idea what I want to chat about. This week, I either did not focus or could not come up with a topic. So, I am going to chat about miscellaneous things.

Coffee Lovers

Coffee has over 136 bioactive compounds, many of which are antioxidants. Studies continue to find many health benefits in coffee. Suggestion: Find a good organic coffee, eliminate the cream and sugar, and reap the benefits!

Jeffing

Jeff Galloway is a popular running coach, who has made fame for his run/walking training philosophy. His books and training plans have helped many succeed in distances ranging from 5K to Ultra’s. Recently I have seen the terminology for this style referred to as “Jeffing”. It may have been a term Galloway has been using all along, but I have not noticed it until the past year or so. Great for his marketing. The running coaches at No Finish Line Fitness use run/walking for new runners, but we follow our own methods. For sure Galloway’s understanding is exceptional, however we treat each of our runners as individuals, therefore we design plans unique to them.

Early in my running life, my pride kept me from embracing the benefits of run/walking, however, because of physical challenges, I now run/walk for various physical reasons. My primary goal now is to keep running in whatever form is best for my body. It has been humbling to my ego, but that is probably long overdue.

Running Form

When No Finish Line Fitness was located in Dover, we performed many gaits analysis, with runners coming from near and far. Having been certified as a level two gait analysis coach, I was able to help runners improve their form and efficiency. For some runners, it is about injuries and for others it is about efficiency (speed).

Since we closed our No Finish Line Fitness center in Dover, we have been conducting gait analysis at local gyms. While it worked okay, it was not optimal. Now settling in Meredith, I have been able to turn my garage into a fitness/running lab. More information will be forthcoming, but I am happy to have a location to provide professional gait analysis! We are really excited to be able to help runners.
