The Comeback
It has been a few years since I last posted a Coffee & Chat. I have thought many times of getting back at it but was not there yet. I guess my life’s journey has brought me back to this weekly blog.
Why am I back and do I really have anything worthwhile to chat about? Both are great questions, and I only have an answer to one of them. I feel strongly about the state of running and fitness in general and my many years of experience have me more than ever wanting to provide some insight. Whether it will be worthwhile is up to those who stop in. Hopefully the insight will motivate or at the least give people something to think about. I believe my prospective and my passion will connect with most.
Previously I posted every Sunday, however in my comeback I will be posting each Friday, and will also be posting a short video along with my chat.
Without giving a full account of life between my last chat and present day, I will provide some details.
I closed our No Finish Line Fitness gym in 2021, as my wife (Kathleen) and I moved to Pawleys Island South Carolina. In 2022, Kathleen came down with cancer, and after 18 months she lost her battle. We had moved back to New Hampshire in 2022 for Kathy’s treatment and ended up buying a condo in Meredith, where I reside now. Through that time, I took a personal training position at a local gym, while still coaching runners through No Finish Line Fitness. I continue to coach runners of all levels and enjoy helping people reach all different goals. Seeking knowledge and education in both running and fitness, I maintain my ACE personal training and RRCA Level II Running Coach certifications. Keeping current and learning are essential to me as I strive to be the best coach.
Today
As always, I am focused on the science of exercise and running, while maintaining personal connection. It is astounding to me how despite scientific proof of the importance of exercise, for the majority, our country ignores it. Maybe it is my age (now 62), but I pay attention to studies on aging health issues and the facts are not good. The projected number of people who will befallen with Dementia or Alzheimer's is downright scary, not to mention other serious health issues.
Science continues to better understand cause, effect and patterns, which is helpful, but only if utilized. Unfortunately, we as a country (and probably the world) do not take it as seriously as we should. I understand studies are numerous and results are often contradictory, however in most instances, findings consistently favor the benefits or exercise. Also, while walking is great for us physically, studies highlight the importance of resistance training above all! My passion has been and will continue to be, is to use my knowledge and understanding, to reach everyone who gives me an ear!
Feels Good
I can tell it is the right time to be back chatting, as it felt good to be back sharing. If you are an old friend, welcome back and if this is your first time here, welcome! I am looking forward to many more Coffee & Chat. God bless and have a great week.
